Prerequisites
Before connecting Vultr to PloyWP, ensure you have:
Vultr Account
An active Vultr account with billing enabled. Get $100 credit for new accounts
API Key
A Personal Access Token with full permissions for server management
Payment Method
Valid payment method on file for server charges (billed hourly by Vultr)
Creating Your Vultr API Key
Important Security Note
Your API key provides full access to your Vultr account. Keep it secure and never share it publicly. PloyWP encrypts and stores your key securely.
Navigate to Account Settings
Log in to your Vultr account and click on your account name in the top right corner, then select "Account" from the dropdown menu, or go directly to my.vultr.com/settings/#settingsapi
Enable API Access
Click on the "API" tab in the left sidebar. If API access is not already enabled, click the "Enable API" button.
Create Personal Access Token
Click "Manage API Keys" then "Add API Key"
Name:
IP Address Restrictions (Optional):
Leave blank to allow access from any IP, or add PloyWP's IP addresses for enhanced security
Permissions:
Ensure the following permissions are enabled:
- • Server: Read, Write, Delete
- • DNS: Read, Write (for domain management)
- • Snapshot: Read, Write (for backups)
- • Object Storage: Read, Write (for backups)
Copy Your API Key
⚠️ Copy your API key immediately! It will only be shown once.
After clicking "Add", your new API key will be displayed. Copy it and save it securely. You'll need this key to connect Vultr to PloyWP.
Connecting Vultr to PloyWP
Once you have your API key, follow these steps to connect Vultr:

Navigate to Settings → Cloud Providers in your PloyWP dashboard

Click "Add Provider" and select Vultr

Enter a friendly name (e.g., "My Vultr Account")

Paste your API key and click "Connect"

PloyWP will verify the connection and display available regions

Once connected, you can start deploying WordPress sites to any of Vultr's 25 global locations.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting
API Key Authentication Failed
If you receive an authentication error when connecting Vultr:
- • Ensure you copied the entire API key without spaces
- • Verify the API key has all required permissions enabled

- • Generate a new API key if the issue persists
Instance Creation Failed
If instance creation fails during deployment:
- • Check your Vultr account has valid payment method
- • Verify you haven't reached instance limits

SSH Connection Issues
